ABOUT US

North East Lincolnshire P.S. was first formed in 1955 as The Nunsthorpe and District Photographic Society because members met in the Scout Hut in the Nunsthorpe area of Grimsby. Over the years venues and county boundaries have changed so the name evolved into, firstly, the North Lincolnshire Photographic Society and finally to North East Lincolnshire Photographic Society (or NELPS for short).

We are now a well-established photographic society that tries to cater for all aspects of still photography in both printed and digitally projected images, colour and monochrome. Our appreciation of the different genres of photography is enhanced by the various and varied guest speakers we have each month.

Our meetings are held weekly throughout the year at 7.30 pm on Wednesdays, with a short Summer break in August. Our meeting room at The Annie Chapple Centre has level access and provides us excellent facilities and easy parking.

Our well balanced programme includes:

  • renowned guest speakers who cover a range of interesting topics,

  • numerous competitions both internal and external, and

  • practical evenings for "hands on" photography; including, digital imaging tutorials covering the manipulation of images in Photoshop or other programmes.

We also try to organise visits to places that provide us with photographic opportunities. These have included Grimsby Docks (with permission from ABP), North Cotes Flying Club and the RAF Fire Museum at Scunthorpe.

NELPS is a member of North and East Midlands Photographic Federation (N&EMPF) and the Lincolnshire Photographic Association (LPA) which gives us access to excellent judges and speakers. Members have had successes in exhibitions and competitions run by these organisations, which has helped them to gain photographic distinctions. Other benefits of being a member include meeting like-minded people, being able to ask questions on technical matters, picking up “tricks of the trade”, getting inspiration from top class speakers, developing their skills, showing their work and getting feed back about it.

NELPS has a proud tradition of bringing all of this to its members. We also pride ourselves on being a friendly club and our tea breaks buzz with friendly chat and banter. We also enjoy our annual Summer and Christmas Socials.

If you are interested in joining then do not hesitate to contact our secretary who will be happy to try and answer any enquiries you may have or just come along to a meeting – your first two meetings are free!
